Falkirk Ju- Jitsu Club

Club History

When looking back over the years when I first joined in 1977 the club was practising the art of Kempo Ju-Jitsu. The Chief Instructor was Sensei Colin Elder; he practised in various styles of martial art. Sensei Colin Elder was trained by a Hawaian Kempo Master Ken Sirigano, he also trained under Professor Robert Clark, Mike Marshall, Jeff Cooper, and Tony Blaur. Sensei Colin Elder won the European Self Defence Title in 1970.

I myself Sensei Michael Craig 4th Dan have practised with various Federations, AKA Association, International Fighting Arts, AJJA, AKFA, and the World Self Defence Federation. I have practised various styles of Ju-Jitsu, Judo, and Aikido.

The Falkirk Kempo Ju-Jitsu Club is growing in strength, which has Assistant Coaches, Club Coaches, and Senior Coaches all of whom have obtained Coaching Awards. All Instructors within the club have Enhanced Disclosures or CRB Checks as part of the World Ju-Jitsu Federation Child Protection Policy. KEMPO “Way of the Fist” A Chinese martial art, originally a fighting method using no weapons introduced into Okinawa just before 1600 the art of the fist is characterized by powerful and fast fist techniques, the feet being used only to move the combatants around. The techniques were practised in the seventh century by Buddhist monks of the Shaolin-si, and later known as Jiaodishu then Kaiko and finally under the influence of the Mongols known as Keny.

The Shaolin-si was a famous Chinese monastery where forms of boxing were taught to strengthen the Monk’s physique, so as to enable to defend themselves.

Boddhidharma, a Zen Buddhist Monk soon combined Chinese Kempo with Yoga breathing techniques to eventually develop the system further into what became known as GO-SHIN-JITSU.

JU-JITSU “The Gentle Art” Techniques of combat during the Kamakura period 1185-1333 in Japan the essential principal of Ju-Jitsu is to conquer the enemy with any and all means with minimal force, be able to judge the force of any opponents attack and use it against him before it takes effect; be able to bring an opponent off balance, if possible evade attack; strike vital points of the body to produce unconsciousness, or serious injury. Ju-Jitsu was first practiced by the Samurai then by the Ninja.
